PLAYED AT: Markin MacPhail Centre - WinSport Arena Date: Aug 4, 2014 GAME NOTES: RED MAKES IT TWO-FOR-TWO AT U18 CAMP, BEATS WHITE GARRETH MACDONALD CALGARY, Alta. – Lawson Crouse and Travis Konecny finally got White on the scoreboard, but it was Red once again earning the victory at Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp on Monday night, 3-2. Red opened the camp with a 6-0 win on Sunday, and was 36.7 seconds away from back-to-back shutouts. After a tight-checking first period that saw Red edge White 6-5 in shots, Mitchell Marner (Thornhill, Ont./London, OHL) spotted Dylan Strome (Mississauga, Ont./Erie, OHL) alone in the slot and the forward snapped the puck past Nick McBride (Maple Ridge, B.C./Prince Albert, WHL) to give Red the 1-0 lead. With White’s Chaz Reddekopp (West Kelowna, B.C./Victoria, WHL) sitting in the penalty box for hooking, Anthony Beauvillier (Sorel, Que./Shawinigan, QMJHL) gave Red a 2-0 lead on the power play. After fanning on his first shot attempt, Beauvillier drew McBride out of position before making good on his second opportunity, burying his second goal of the camp and doubling his team’s lead. Mitchell Stephens (Peterborough, Ont./Saginaw, OHL) made it a 3-0 game for Red after his wrist shot from the top of the left circle beat goaltender Olivier Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Que./Rimouski, QMJHL), who came in to replace McBride midway through the period. Trailing by three late in the game, Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont./Kingston, OHL) scored White’s first goal of camp as he whacked a rebound past a sprawling Zach Sawchenko (Calgary, Alta./Moose Jaw, WHL) with just 36.7 seconds left. Konecny (Clachan, Ont./Ottawa, OHL) and Nick Merkley (Calgary, Alta./Kelowna, WHL) picked up the helpers. Konecny then hammered home a buzzer-beater to cap the scoring. Despite the loss, White outshot Red 24-18. Callum Booth (Montreal, Que./Quebec, QMJHL) was perfect between the pipes for Red as he turned aside all 12 shots he faced, while Sawchenko stopped 10 of 12. Tremblay had eight saves on nine shots while McBride stopped seven of nine. White will look for its first win tomorrow in the camp finale; puck drop is set for 11 a.m. MT at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park. Visiting Team: Red Home Team: White
