Kelsey Roberts (Kitimat, B.C./University of Calgary, CW) turned aside 22 of the 26 shots she faced in net for Canada, which was outshot 26-22. The North Americans rivals recorded eight shots apiece in a back-and-forth first period that saw Shelton net the ice-breaking tally with a wrist shot through traffic just over 11 minutes in. Canada made a push for a two-goal lead early in the second period, but the U.S. turned the territorial tide in the last 10 minutes and broke through for a tying goal courtesy of Presley Norby. Natalie Snodgrass put the Americans ahead 2:31 into the third period with a wrist shot from the deep slot, but Bell responded just over four minutes later from the same position as a result of solid cycle pressure from the Canadian forwards. The United States’ 11-5 edge in shots in the final frame ultimately bore fruit as Hannah Bilka, the overtime hero from Game 1, scored the game-winning goal with 4:50 left. Sydney Brodt added insurance with 87 seconds remaining. The Canadians will look to avoid the sweep when the series wraps up Saturday night (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT). |
