GAME NOTES: CANADA BLANKED IN PARA DEVELOPMENT SERIES FINALE
JASON LA ROSE
MONTREAL, Que. – Trent Seymour (Prince George, B.C.) and Tyson Rietveld (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) combined for 28 saves, but Canada’s National Para Hockey Development Team couldn’t find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to the United States to finish a three-game series Sunday at the Défi sportif AlterGo.
The Americans opened with a 2-1 victory Friday before Canada bounced back to win by the same score to even the series Saturday night.
A slow start doomed the Canadians; they were on the wrong end of a 15-5 shot count in the first period, and trailed 3-0 after Harrison Burgess, Kyle Zych and Dan McCoy all put pucks behind Seymour before the end of the opening frame.
McCoy added his second goal on a second-period power play, capping the scoring.
Rietveld started the third period in relief of Seymour, who stopped 20 of 24 shots through 15 minutes of work.
The Défi sportif AlterGo is an international event that brings together elite and up-coming athletes with all types of disabilities. Each year, more than 5,000 athletes from 20 countries compete during seven days in Montreal and on the South-Shore. |
