CATHARINES, Ont. – Colton Point (North Bay, Ont./Colgate University, ECAC) and Carter Hart (Sherwood Park, Alta./Everett, WHL) combined for the 32-save shutout, backstopping the U SPORTS all-stars to a 3-0 win over Canadian hopefuls in the opening game Wednesday at Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp. Point stopped all 14 shots he faced before giving way midway through the second period to Hart, who turned aside all 18 shots directed his way in the final 30 minutes. The first goal came quickly, with Luke Philp streaking down the right wing and beating Michael DiPietro (Amherstburg, Ont./Windsor, OHL) to the glove side for a power-play goal just 2:44 in. The goaltenders took over from there, stopping everything they faced the rest of the way. Point had the best save of the bunch, robbing Jonathan Ang (Markham, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) on a point-blank opportunity early in the second period to keep the university stars up a goal. Samuel Harvey (Alma, Que./Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL), who replaced DiPietro in the Canadian goal in the second period, went to the bench in the final minutes, but Michael Clarke and Logan McVeigh both found the empty net to provide the final margin of victory. The teams return to the Meridian Centre on Thursday afternoon (4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, TSN GO) before Canada closes out camp against Denmark on Friday (2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, TSN GO).
