PLAYED AT: Pavillon de la jeunesse
Date: Nov 2, 2017
GAME NOTES: SASKATCHEWAN HOLDS OFF TEAM QUEBEC TO IMPROVE TO 1-1 Taylor Kirwan (Gull Lake, Sask./Swift Current, SFMAAAHL) beat Quebec goaltender Michelle Thibault with a wrist shot at 4:37 of the opening frame to launch Saskatchewan’s offence in the team’s 3-2 win at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship. Teammate Joelle Fiala (Clavet, Sask./Saskatoon, SFMAAAHL) kept the offence going just past the midway mark of the first, picking up the rebound on Allison Hayhurst’s (Wapella, Sask./Melville, SFMAAAHL) shot from the point to put Saskatchewan up by two heading into the first intermission. Quebec’s Tamara Thiérus (St-Jérôme, Que./Stanstead College, CAHS) cut Saskatchewan’s lead in half at 13:02 of the second period, but Saskatchewan came back with a goal by Jordyn Holmes (Saskatoon, Sask./Saskatoon, SFMAAAHL) who buried a pass from Mackenna Parker (Clavet, Sask./Saskatoon, SFMAAAHL) to score the eventual game-winner. Quebec closed the gap to one goal with less than a minute left in the third, but ran out of time and settled for its first loss of the tournament.
