Game Report 1758 NPT - Selection Camp
PLAYED AT: Markin MacPhail Centre - WinSport Arena
Date: Sep 7, 2017
GAME NOTES: QUICK STRIKES LEAD RED TO WIN AT SLEDGE CAMP JASON LA ROSE CALGARY, Alta. – Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) and Dominic Cozzolino (Mississauga, Ont.) scored goals 12 seconds apart to break open a tie game, and Red got three in the third to beat Korea 4-1 on Thursday at Canada’s National Sledge Team selection camp. Red took both games from the Paralympic hosts at camp, by identical scores; it scored a 4-1 victory on Monday in the camp opener. With the game deadlocked 1-1 nearing the five-minute mark of the third period and the teams playing 4-on-4, Bowden found a loose puck at the top of the Korean crease and poked the game-winner past goaltender Jae-Woong Lee. Cozzolino added insurance right off the ensuing face-off by finishing off a set-up from Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.), who had a goal and two assists in the victory. Westlake had the lone goal of the first period, setting up in front of Lee and slipping a power-play goal past the Korean puck-stopper at 10:10, but Yong-Min Lee answered for the Koreans midway through the second after a turnover in the Canadian zone produced a mini-break down low. Red had a chance to retake the lead before the end of the middle frame but failed to capitalize on a 42-second two-man advantage, managing just a single shot on goal on the power play, and just two in the period. After Bowden and Cozzolino put the Canadians in front for good, James Gemmell (Quesnel, B.C.) found space on Lee from a sharp angle with 3:20 left to provide the final margin of victory. One night after Red and White combined for four power-play goals, both teams struggled with the man advantage – Red finished 1-for-7, while the Koreans were goalless on five chances. Adam Kingsmill (Smithers, B.C.) got the start for Red and stopped eight of the nine shots he faced before giving way to Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) to start the third period. Korea closes out its camp schedule Friday against White (1:45 p.m. MT), while Red will meet White in the second and final intrasquad game to close out selection camp on Saturday (11:15 a.m. MT).
