PLAYED AT: Markin MacPhail Centre - WinSport Arena Date: Jul 28, 2017 GAME NOTES: BLUE EDGES WHITE IN U17 CAMP FINALE JASON LA ROSE CALGARY, Alta. – Joe Carroll (Almonte, Ont./Carleton Place, HEO) scored the game-winner with just under four minutes to go, sending Blue to a 3-2 win over White in the final game at Canada’s national under-17 development camp on Friday afternoon. Blue ended its intrasquad schedule with two wins and a loss, while White could only manage a single shootout victory alongside a pair of defeats. With Blue pressuring, Carroll cruised through the slot and got his stick on a shot from Robert Calisti (Toronto, Ont./Toronto Nationals, GTHL), redirecting it past Mack Guzda (Nashville, Tenn./Detroit Honeybaked, USU16) to give Blue its third and final lead of the game. Outshooting White 13-6 in the first period, it was no surprise Blue struck for the only goal in the opening frame; after a turnover at the White blue-line, Philip Tomasino (Mississauga, Ont./Mississauga Rebels, GTHL) knocked in a rebound in front of goaltender Taylor Gauthier (Calgary, Alta./Calgary Buffaloes, AMHL) for a 1-0 lead. White got that back with the lone goal of the second period, with Connor Bouchard (Cochrane, Alta./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) going to the net and burying a centering feed from Navrin Mutter (Lucan, Ont./Elgin Middlesex, MHAO) to send the game to the intermission even at 1-1. Dawson Mercer (Bay Roberts, N.L./Bishop’s College School, CAHS) put Blue back on top just past the three-minute mark of the third period, corralling a rebound in front and tucking it around Guzda, but Samuel Poulin (Blainville, Que./Collège Esther-Blondin, LHMAAAQ) answered four minutes later, chipping a shot up and over Nolan Maier (Yorkton, Sask./Yorkton, SMAAAHL) to make it 2-2 ahead of the Caroll winner. All four goaltenders were busy; Blue starter Roman Basran (Abbotsford, B.C./Yale Hockey Academy, CSSHL) stopped all 13 shots he faced before giving way to Maier, who turned aside 10 of 12.
