PLAYED AT: Markin MacPhail Centre - Arena B Date: Jul 28, 2017 GAME NOTES: RED FINISHES U17 CAMP WITH WIN IN SHOOTOUT THRILLER LINDSAY LEGGETT CALGARY, Alta. – Peyton Krebs (Okotoks, Alta./Foothills, AMHL) and Dylan Cozens (Whitehorse, Y.T./Yale Hockey Academy, CSSHL) scored goals in the shootout, pushing Red to a 6-5 extra-time win over Black on Friday in the final game for both at Canada’s national under-17 development camp. After the first two Red shooters missed, Krebs and Cozens both beat Ethan Langevin (Brooklin, Ont./Whitby, OMHA), and Red netminder Trent Miner (Souris, Man./Brandon, MMAAAHL) denied the last four Black shooters to clinch the win. Brayden Tracey (Calgary, Alta./Calgary Northstars, AMHL) led the way with a hat trick in regulation for Red, which won for the second day in a row and kept Black winless. The game was goalless into the late minutes of the first period, when Black opened the scoring; Sasha Mutala (Vancouver, B.C./Greater Vancouver, BCMML) finished off a pretty feed from Alex Newhook (St. John’s, N.L./York Simcoe, OMHA) for a 1-0 lead. The action picked up in the second, with both teams netting a pair of goals. Black scored two in quick succession, with Ben McCartney (Portage la Prairie, Man./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) and Hayden Fowler (Kingston, Ont./Greater Kingston, OMHA) converting just 44 seconds apart to make it 3-0. But Red responded; Tracey redirected a pass from Christopher Merisier-Ortiz (Boisbriand, Que./Saint-Eustache, LHMAAAQ) at 5:34 to cut the lead to two, and Cozens knocked a rebound past Langevin to make it a one-goal game after two periods. A five-minute major late in the middle frame gave Black an opportunity to restore its multi-goal advantage, and Mutala struck for the second time in the game just 52 seconds into the third. But here came Red. Krebs made it 4-3, snapping a quick shot past Langevin right off a scrambled face-off, and Tracey finished his hat trick with goals less than three minutes apart, giving Red its first lead at 5-4. The win looked to be secure with the puck in the corner in the dying moments, but Pierrick Dubé (Quebec City, Que./Séminaire Saint-François.
