GAME NOTES: POULIN GETS SHOOTOUT WINNER, RED FINISHES FALL FESTIVAL WITH WIN JASON LA ROSE CALGARY, Alta. – Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que./Montreal, CWHL) did all the scoring for Red, including the shootout winner, as it capped Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival with a 2-1 extra-time win over White on Sunday morning. Red finished camp with an unbeaten record in four games – two wins over White and one each over the Calgary AAA Flames and SEAC Tigers, both of the Alberta Midget Hockey League. Victoria Bach (Milton, Ont./Boston University, HE) had the lone goal for White. In the shootout, the first six shooters were turned away by Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ont./Boston, CWHL) and Charline Labonté (Boisbriand, Que./Montreal, CWHL) before Poulin snapped a quick shot past the blocker of Lacasse to open Round 4. Labonté answered with a glove stop on Laura Fortino (Hamilton, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) to clinch the win. Both teams came out firing, combining for 11 shots on goal before the midway mark of the opening period, but it took until the final minute of the first for Red to open the scoring on the power play. The puck worked its way around from Erin Ambrose (Keswick, Ont./Clarkson University, ECAC) to Hayley Wickenheiser (Shaunavon, Sask./Calgary, CWHL) before finding its way to Poulin, who ripped a slap shot from the face-off dot over the shoulder of Lacasse. The Red defence locked down after that, allowed White only three shots on goal in the second period, and just 10 over the game’s final 45 minutes, including overtime. But Bach broke through midway through the third, collecting a loose puck that had squirted out from behind the Red net and quickly beating Labonté to tie the game at 9:55. The goal was the first allowed by Red since the first period of Thursday’s camp-opening win over the Flames; Labonté and Erica Howe (Orleans, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) combined for a shutout streak of 216:29. Overtime failed to solved anything, despite a power play for each team. Red finished with a 22-17 advantage in shots on goal.
