GAME NOTES: TWO MORE COMTOIS GOALS HELPS GRENADIERS TO WIN IN ALL-QUEBEC FINALE DAVID BRIEN RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Que. – Maxime Comtois scored two more goals – giving him seven in three games – and leading the Grenadiers de Châteauguay over the Albatros du Collège Notre-Dame 6-2 in the all-Quebec preliminary round finale Friday at the 2015 TELUS Cup. The game was for little more than provincial bragging rights, with the Grenadiers assured to finish second in the round robin standings, and the Albatros already eliminated from semifinal contention. Xavier Grier and Pierre-Luc Sanche had a goal and an assist each for the Grenadiers, who also got offence from Marc-Olivier Duquette and Jacob Lapierre. Antoine Morand added two helpers. The goals for the Albatros came off the sticks of Emanuel Aucoin and Francis Stachtchenko. Between the pipes, Châteauguay’s Mikael Recine earned the 25-save win, while Collège Notre-Dame’s Tristan Bérubé and Marc-Antoine Dufour split the losing effort down the middle, combining for 29 saves. Comtois scored the game’s first goal at 3:29 of the opening period, wiring a wrist shot through the legs of an Albatros defenceman and to the top corner past Dufour, and Grier doubled the lead 16 seconds later, collecting a loose puck behind the net and beating Dufour on a wraparound. Stachtchenko would make it a 2-1 game before the end of the period, a snapping a shot over the glove of Recine from in close to get the tournament hosts on the board. The Grenadiers made it a two-goal game again when Duquette scored 10 seconds into the second period, only to see Aucoin answer for Collège Notre-Dame at the seven-minute mark to cut the lead to 3-2. Châteauguay got two in the second half of the middle frame to take control, starting with Sanche’s unassisted effort at 10:30. A 2-on-0 break would lead to Comtois’ second goal of the night – and tournament-leading seventh – at 17:33 to round out the second period scoring and send the Grenadiers to the dressing room with a three-goal lead. The lone goal of the third period came with 1:31 left from Lapierre, who surprised Bérubé with a quick, low shot. Châteauguay returns to the ice Saturday for its semifinal, facing the Strathmore Bisons (7 p.m. ET). Collège Notre-Dame kept a dubious streak alive; it is the third consecutive host team to miss out on the weekend.
